Macroeconomic determinants of income distribution in Colombia for the period 1988 to 2012

Resumen

La distribución del ingreso ha sido a través del tiempo un tema de gran trascendencia en Colombia. En las últimas décadas, este indicador se ha convertido en el centro de grandes estudios, y los resultados obtenidos han sido desalentadores tanto al interior del país como en toda la región de Latinoamérica. Por lo anterior, el presente trabajo evalúa mediante el Método de Mínimos Cuadrados Ordinarios (M.C.O) cuales fueron los determinantes macroeconómicos de la distribución del ingreso para Colombia en el periodo 1988 al 2012, así mismo analiza si los resultados obtenidos para el caso colombiano tienen alguna relación frente a los razonamientos teóricos realizados por algunos expertos. Las principales variables macroeconómicas que empleamos como muestra predominante del estudio fueron: la tasa de desempleo, el producto interno bruto, la tasa de inflación y la tasa de cambio. De acuerdo a los resultados obtenidos, el estudio concluye que la inestabilidad macroeconómica en Colombia además de ser ineficiente, genera efectos indeseados sobre la igualdad

Income distribution has been over time a topic of great importance in Colombia. In recent decades, this indicator has become the center of major studios, and the results have been disappointing both within the country and throughout the Latin American region. Therefore, the present work evaluated by the method of Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) which were the macroeconomic determinants of income distribution in Colombia in the period 1988 to 2012, also discusses whether the results obtained for the Colombian case they have any relationship against theoretical reasoning by experts. The main macroeconomic variables we use as the predominant study sample were: the unemployment rate, gross domestic product, inflation and the exchange rate. According to the results, the study concludes that macroeconomic instability in Colombia besides being inefficient, generates undesired effects on equality
