The main objective of the study presented below was to evaluate the relationship between the mean flows calculated by the Runoff Curve Number method and the flows recorded in the Tobia river limnigraphic station in the sub-basin of the Rio Medio Negro River in the second sector, located in the north of the department of Cundinamarca, covering an area of 162.27 km2. First, the land units present in the river basin were defined, these were obtained from the integration of the land units and the use and cover units present in the river basin. At the same time, the rainfall data of the Utica weather station was collected, with 40-year records (1975-2015). On the other hand, verify the method of isoyetas to determine the average monthly multiannual precipitation in the study area. For this, consider the weather stations of Caparrapí, La Belleza, El Tuscolo and Útica. In turn, a curve number is assigned to each unit of land defined in the study area, which defines the calculation of the average surface runoff in each of them. Subsequently, he analyzed the relationship between the calculations calculated by the curve number method and the records recorded in the Tobia limnigraphic station by applying the root mean square error (RMSE) method. To assess the relationship between the calculated and recorded surface runoff flow rates, the constant base flow method was applied to the flow hydrograph of the Tobia limnigraphic station, which separated the base flow and obtained the percentage of surface runoff. The results obtained specifically that the surface runoff represent 36.11% of the total runoff equivalent to an average annual multiannual flow of 12.65 m3 / s. On the other hand, an average annual multiannual flow rate of 8.03 m3 / s is obtained from the application of the curve number theory. In accordance with the above, verify the high degree of confirmation of the method since it involves all the variables involved in the runoff generation process while the limnigraphic station measures the total runoff volume per unit of time without the physical characteristics of the river basin.
