Resumen

El presente trabajo de investigación se elaboró para determinar el deterioro ambiental de la Bahía de Cartagena como resultado del proceso de sedimentación originada por la entrega de aguas del río Magdalena a través del Canal del Dique. El transporte de sedimentos se produce inicialmente a través del Río Magdalena y posteriormente por el Canal del Dique para finalmente ser depositados tanto en la Bahía de Cartagena como en la Bahía de Barbacoas. Para dar cumplimiento al objetivo planteado es necesario realizar un análisis diacrónico del proceso de sedimentación en la Bahía de Cartagena, el cual fue realizado mediante la recopilación de datos e información de instituciones que han desarrollado estudios relacionados con el tema objeto del presente estudio y con los cuales se realizó un análisis de los cambios morfológicos, batimétricos y ecosistémicos (aunque de manera parcial) que se han presentado en la Bahía de Cartagena. El proyecto contempló 3 (tres) fases: la primera es la recopilación de información, consistió en la extracción de datos e información de estudios efectuados por distintas instituciones en diferentes épocas y la selección de información útil y necesaria. La segunda fue el procesamiento de la información, contemplaba la depuración y homogeneización de los datos y por último la tercera fase, en donde se pretendió dar un posible escenario de lo que podría ser la Bahía en cuanto a los temas tratados. La información homogeneizada y analizada permitió evidenciar los cambios que la Bahía de Cartagena ha venido sufriendo, las isobatas de la bahía en distintas épocas presentaron un avance hacia el interior de ella, además las secciones transversales a lo largo del Canal demostraron como las dimensiones del mismo han aumentado permitiendo así que el caudal y la carga sólida transportada y depositada en la Bahía incrementara; la disminución en área ocupada por ciertas especies también fue una señal clara de las modificaciones que han venido sufriendo los ecosistemas y del daño ambiental causado por los sedimentos en la Bahía

This research work was developed to determine the environmental deterioration of the Cartagena Bay as a result of the sedimentation process originated by the delivery of waters from the Magdalena River through the Canal del Dique. The transport of sediments occurs primarily through the Magdalena River and later through the Canal del Dique to finally be deposited in the Bay of Cartagena and in the Bay of Barbecues. To fulfil the stated objective, it is required to perform a diachronic analysis of the sedimentation process in the Bay of Cartagena, which was carried out through the collection of data and information from institutions that were developed studies related to the subject matter of this study and to the which was an analysis of the morphological, bathymetric and ecosystemic changes (albeit partially) that have been presented in the Bay of Cartagena. The project contemplated 3 (three) phases: the first is the collection of information, consisted in the extraction of data and information from studies carried out by different institutions at different times and the selection of useful and necessary information. The second was the processing of information, contemplated the purification and homogenization of the data and finally the third phase, where it was intended to give a possible scenario of what could be the Bay in terms of the issues addressed. The information homogenized and analyzed allowed to show the changes that the Bay of Cartagena has been suffering, the isobaths of the bay at different times presented an advance towards the interior of it, besides the cross sections along the Canal showed how the dimensions of it they have increased allowing the flow and the solid load transported and deposited in the Bay to increase; The decrease in area occupied by certain species was also a clear signal of the modifications that ecosystems have been suffering and of the environmental damage caused by sediments in the Bay
