This project was carried out in the municipality of Caucasia-Antioquia and was structured by four components: agronomic, research, social and entrepreneurship. In the first place, the agronomic component consisted of the implementation of a rice crop in an area of 30.000m2, the respective agronomic practices were carried out based on a technical management plan, as well as the preparation of the land, the sowing, the fertilization, the integrated management of pests, diseases, weeds, harvest and postharvest. There was a 60% loss of the planted area as a result of heavy rainfall and winds that caused the plants to fall to the ground. Second, the research component focused on closing the gap in the lack of information on arthropofauna associated with rice cultivation in the municipality of Caucasia, for which it was decided to expand the knowledge of farmers in the area as to what arthropods can be beneficial or pests within the crop. The capture of the arthropods was carried out using the entomological net and fall traps. In a third moment, the social component was based on a series of trainings for farmers in the area interested in issues related to rice cultivation and the distribution of the information obtained in the research component, all this through teaching materials (brochures), in which the arthropods found in the area and their incidence in rice cultivation (pests, beneficial or neutral) were presented. Finally, the entrepreneurship component showed negative values for the IRR and NPV, this caused by lower production as a consequence of the loss initially mentioned due to climatic factors. Despite this adverse event, the project served as an example for farmers who were able to learn directly how to technically manage rice cultivation to obtain better productions and also expanded their knowledge regarding the diversity of arthropods present in the crop.
