The village of La Moya is located in the municipality of Fómeque, to the east of the Cundinamarca department. It is a rural area which, due to its topographical conditions, does not have a potable water supply system, a situation that has led its residents to seek nearby water sources for their needs. For many years, they have used the Páusaga stream (El hato), a water source that crosses the village's territory. Although this is not the only source of supply for the residents, it is the primary one, serving the largest number of people. The lack of knowledge about the physico-chemical conditions of the stream has motivated the development of this study, which aimed to establish the current state of the stream using the Water Quality Index (WQI). After conducting a series of three samplings at different times of the year and at different points along the stream, it was determined that the water quality index ranges between 50 and 70 points according to the NSF-WQI index, indicating that the quality of the Páusaga stream (El hato) is fair. These results suggested that, although it is not potable, it can be considered a water source suitable for agricultural and domestic uses other than consumption. Additionally, strategies were proposed to preserve the water source, aiming to ensure that the community can continue to benefit from this resource.
