The changes in the World Society have made possible the broaden of the academic community’s discussion of the scope of security at the contemporary level. Globalization will pose the emergence of a human or holistic vision or dimension, parallel to that statist that strengthens the role of political realism. Both alternatives aim to meet the challenges of the 21st century. This monograph paper examines three main aspects: first, the change in the construction of the concept of security in theoretical terms. Secondly, a policy review of the axes of environmental security in the region; and thirdly, an analysis of how the development model normatively promotes environmental sustainability, and in fact, the carrying out of illegal activities that threaten the territory. As a conclusion we propose that in the region of Chocó Biogeográfico have arisen different forms of international cooperation that affects the sustainability of the environment, involving in addition to traditional forms of cooperation, mechanisms of collective action that in their form Col-Col, contribute to the survival of the communities, and to the strengthening of their social fabric.
