Abstract
This study looks at the relationship between territorial employment absorption capacity (RCATDECH) and factors like economic activity, business development, and human capital in Colombia between 2002 and 2021. The research aims to understand how these elements affect the creation of formal jobs across different departments and to what extent regional conditions help explain the employment gaps we see. The focus is on identifying the social, economic, and educational factors that influence job generation, without yet trying to design specific policies. The problem is framed around the structural limitations of Colombia’s labor market and the uneven ability of different regions to create sustainable employment. The purpose of the study lies in the need to deepen our understanding of these inequalities and how they relate to local economic dynamics. The main objectives are to analyze the measurable factors that impact RCATDECH and to explore the connections between key variables in regional development. The reference framework focuses on how human capital, productive structure, and business activity are connected, as the main areas of analysis. On the theoretical side, it looks at concepts related to labor absorption and how it plays out in different regions, without trying to cover broad theoretical approaches like agglomeration economics or economic geography. The study clearly defines its scope as empirical and doesn't go into policy recommendations. The historical review gives some background on the changes in Colombia's labor market since the 2000s, highlighting events like the recovery after the 1990s crisis and the growth of sectors such as mining and oil. It also touches on ongoing challenges like informal employment and educational barriers in more remote areas.
