School principal leadership is considered one of the factors with the highest incidence in institutional improvement, given its impact on the learning and well-being of students and in turn on the quality of education. The principal, as the person responsible for the technical, administrative and pedagogical direction of an educational institution, is called to become the leader who inspires transformation and transcendence for his educational community, through pertinent leadership practices and management, conducive to improvement and collective efficiency based on a shared vision. The school principals who begin the exercise of their position for the first time, are doomed with different circumstances that limit or delay the management and the managerial leadership required by the institution to advance in its purposes, experiencing situations of uncertainty, frustration, and hopelessness that can even be traumatic. This situation can be felt more strongly in educational contexts of greater complexity due to the social, cultural, economic characteristics of the school and its surroundings, as is the case of the Ciudad Bolívar Locality in Bogotá, D. C. To provide guidance for an induction proposal directed to novel principals in terms of characteristics and components, with a view to strengthening the development of relevant management processes and leadership practices from the beginning of the term of office, that favour institutional improvement, is the aim of this research process, taking as an essential source of information the experiences lived by novice rectors of the locality.
