Educación de calidad en Colombia : un ideal utópico. Diagnóstico a nivel nacional para el periodo 2006-2014

En Colombia, múltiples esfuerzos por mejorar la calidad del sistema educativo han encontrado un obstáculo importante en la falta de competencias necesarias de los estudiantes para transitar con éxito de la educación básica y media a la superior. Este documento utiliza datos del Ministerio de Educación Nacional desde 2006-1 hasta 2014-2 buscando los factores asociados a la calidad de la educación básica y media a nivel nacional. Además, evalúa cómo estos factores determinan el acceso a la Educación Superior en Colombia, teniendo en cuenta las políticas implementadas por el Gobierno Nacional (en cuanto a calidad) durante la última década. Se encuentra que la calidad del colegio del que egresa el estudiante, junto a factores como el género, el ingreso económico, las capacidades académicas del mismo y las expectativas que se generan en el colegio influyen en la probabilidad de ingresar a la Educación Superior. In Colombia, many efforts to improve the quality of the education system have found a major obstacle in the lack of skills needed for students to move successfully from primary and secondary education to higher education. This paper uses data from the Ministry of Education from 2006-1 to 2014-2 looking for factors associated with the nationwide quality of education. It also assesses how these factors determine access to higher education in Colombia, taking into account the policies implemented by the Government (in quality terms) over the past decade. It shows that primary and intermediate school´s quality, due with factors such as gender, income, student academic skills and expectations generated at school, influence the likelihood of enrolling at higher education.Keywords: Educational System, Quality, Access to Higher Education, Saber Tests.
