The main objective of the project is to evaluate the incidence of the onion agroecosystem in the regulation of soil biodiversity, using edaphic respiration as an indicator of biological degradation in the Tota Lake basin, in the municipality of Aquitaine, where four plots were located with handling differences; In each plot, different study parameters are evaluated, such as: Organic carbon, mesofauna (index of richness and biodiversity) and apparent density that is used as verifiers of edaphic respiration. With the results obtained in the field and the variance analysis, carried out with a confidence level of 95%, determined that the main significant difference was presented in the breathing behavior for each type of management and evidence that the indicator was statistically significant hypothesis proposed that edaphic respiration has a direct relationship with changes in health and soil quality reflected in the values of the verifying parameters. Subsequently, an index of soil biological degradation was generated from the results obtained and field observations, and from this a methodology was proposed to generate an index in other studies for different zones. Finally, it concludes that the onion agroecosystem is altering the health and quality of the soil, and that edaphic respiration can be used as an indicator of these, as well as to facilitate the decision making of managers and farmers in the face of degradation processes ground
