El siguiente proyecto de investigación surgió de la preocupación por mejorar los bajos niveles de comprensión de lectura, en estudiantes de grado quinto de primaria de las IIEE El Retiro, Salesiano Miguel Unia y Luis Carlos Galán; evidente en los resultados insatisfactorios en pruebas de competencias en lenguaje y la falta de interés por la lectura de textos propuestos en clase. Ante este panorama se inició a indagar por los libros que estaban en sus casas, las preferencias de tipología textual, el tiempo de lectura, las prácticas de lectura en familia y la manera como les enseñaron a leer. Si bien los datos del diagnóstico inicial fueron fundamentales para el diseño de las estrategias aplicadas y la elección del tipo de investigación, sirvió también para comprender que los estudiantes realizan ejercicios de lectura constantemente, en sus redes sociales o en el desarrollo de actividades académicas.
The following research project arose from a concern to improve the low levels of reading comprehension in fifth-grade students at the El Retiro, Salesiano Miguel Unia, and Luis Carlos Galán educational institutions. This concern was evident in the unsatisfactory results in language competency tests and the lack of interest in reading assigned texts in class. In light of this situation, an investigation was initiated to inquire about the books available in their homes, their preferences for types of texts, reading habits, family reading practices, and how they were taught to read. While the data from the initial diagnosis were fundamental for designing the applied strategies and choosing the type of research, it also helped to understand that students constantly engage in reading exercises, whether it be on their social networks or in the development of academic activities.
