The development of this study aims to analyze the Risk Index Water Quality for human consumption (IRCA) and its relationship with meteorological variables (precipitation and temperature) and geographic location for the department of Nariño in 2012-2013. The research was correlational, since the degree of non-causal association was found between the variables studied and secondary sources were obtained from the information system for monitoring water quality – SIVICAP and weather information-IDEAM. Initially a thorough investigation where all the information of the study area in relation to the theme of the project was collected was performed. Then, correlations between Coliforms, E. Coli, Residual Chlorine, Conductivity, pH, alkalinity, total hardness, chloride and total iron with Turbidity and between the IRCA with precipitation and temperature variables using Pearson coefficients were made. Finally, information is represented in thematic maps. The results showed that statistically the correlations were presented in most cases in the department of Nariño, was between total Iron -Turbidity and Turbidity - E. Coli. On the behavior of the meteorological variables with the IRCA, we determined that there is no systematic pattern between these observations. Finally, as to the evolution of risk indices of quality of drinking water between 2012 and 2013, it was determined that the deficiencies in drinking water were progressive. Keywords: Risk Index Water quality for human consumption, Nariño Department, Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient, precipitation and temperature.eng
