Resumen

Las aves silvestres ocupan una posición muy importante en la biodiversidad nacional, pues están representadas por una amplia riqueza de especies habitando en el territorio colombiano. En este trabajo se identificaron los ectoparásitos de aves Nycticorax nycticorax, colectados en una investigación anterior. Para ello, previamente se capturaron 7 aves Nycticorax nycticorax en la Guajira y se colectaron sus ectoparásitos; todo esto en el marco del proyecto "Implementación del Plan Nacional Sectorial Ambiental de Vigilancia y Prevención de Influenza Aviar en Especies Silvestres en Humedales Priorizados en las Regiones Caribe, Pacífico, Oriental y Sur” realizada por el Ministerio de Ambiente y Desarrollo Sostenible (MADS) en convenio con la Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS). En total fueron 24 ectoparásitos, todos ellos del orden Phthiraptera. Los especímenes fueron aclarados en KOH al 10%, deshidratados en alcoholes seriados 70 – 99.9% y luego montados en láminas para su correcta identificación morfológica y taxonómica en el microscopio. Posteriormente, estas muestras fueron analizadas en el laboratorio, y se tomaron imágenes; para ser enviadas a expertos a nivel nacional e internacional. Los resultados de los piojos hallados en el Nycticorax nycticorax correspondieron principalmente a la especie Ciconiphilus decimfasciatus (Familia: Menoponidae; Suborden: Amblycera). Con esto, se pretendió ahondar en el conocimiento de estos parásitos, en cuanto a su morfología y a la interacción con el huésped. Se logró concluir que los ectoparásitos del orden Phthiraptera afectan de forma significativa a las aves silvestres, y que el género Ciconiphilus afecta de forma mayoritaria a las aves del género Nycticorax. Por otro lado se sugirió acerca de la necesidad de plantear futuros estudios relacionados con el tema en el territorio nacional, aunque no se debe negar el gran desafío que esto implica pues existe una gran deficiencia de investigadores con experiencia en el área y claves referentes a los parásitos de las especies silvestres colombianas. Este estudio se presentó como un punto importante de referencia para Médicos Veterinarios, Médicos Veterinarios Zootécnistas, Zootécnistas, Biólogos, Entomólogos y otras carreras afines, pues es muy poco el conocimiento y también los estudios realizados nacionalmente en torno a este tema.

The wild birds occupy a very important position in the national biodiversity, because they are represented by a wide wealth of species inhabiting the Colombian territory. This paper identified the ectoparasites of wild birds of Colombia, collected in a previous investigation. For it, previously captured 7 Nycticorax nycticorax birds in La Guajira and their ectoparasites were collected, all in the framework of the project "Implementation of the Environmental Sectoral National Plan of Surveillance and Prevention of Avian Influenza in Wild Species in Prioritized Wetlands in the Caribbean, Pacific, Oriental and South Regions" carried out by the Ministry of Atmosphere and Sustainable Development (MADS) in agreement with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS). In total there were 24 ectoparasites, all of the order Phthiraptera, all them of the order Phthiraptera. The specimens were clarified in KOH to 10%, dehydrated in serial alcohols 70 - 99.9% and then mounted in slides for their correct morphological and taxonomic identification in the microscope. Later on, these samples were analyzed in the laboratory and were taken images; to be sent to experts at national and international level. The results of the lice found in the Nycticorax nycticorax correspond to the species mainly of Ciconiphilus decimfasciatus (Family: Menoponidae; Suborder: Amblycera). With this, whit this we intended to further our understanding of these parasites in their morphology and interaction with the host. It was possible to conclude that the order Phthiraptera ectoparasites significantly affect wild birds, and the genera Ciconiphilus affects from a majority way to the birds of the genera Nycticorax. On the other hand, it was suggested on the need to raise further related issue in the country studies, although it should no deny the great challenge that this implies as there is a great deficiency of researches with expertise in the area and keys relating to the parasites of Colombian wild species. This study was presented as an important point of reference for Veterinary Doctors, Veterinary Doctors and Zoo techniques, Zoo techniques, Biologists, Entomologists and other careers related, because it is very little the knowledge and also the studies carried out nationally around this topic.
