The umbilical hernia in equine neonates can occur by several factors, including the association are the inheritance mechanism. The presence of this condition leads to economic losses on account of treatment and secondary complications. Therefore, it is important to understand the association between umbilical hernia and its heritability, and that has not been well documented. The objective of this research was to study the relationship of six stallions Polo Argentino Breed, as players and its possible transmission to their progeny umbilical hernia in three hatcheries in the Sabana de Bogotá. For this, the information collected includes the following data: date of birth, and sex identification of the equine neonate, father's name, mother's name, presence or absence of umbilical hernia, in the years 2010, 2011 and 2012 for this work descriptive statistics and hypothesis testing was used, through the Statgraphics Centurion 16.1.15 XVI ® program. A total of 134 births equine neonates was obtained during the three years, where 69 healthy and 65 animals were found with umbilical hernia. The six stallions used for breeding for this study were designated with letters of the alphabet A, B, C, X, Y, Z. The stallion A, had 31 births, 8 young and 23 without hernia umbilical hernia, the stallion B, had 18 births, 8 young and 10 with no hernia umbilical hernia, the stallion C, had 15 births, 10 without hernia umbilical hernia and 5, the X stallion had 24 births, 16 and 8 without hernia umbilical hernia, the stallion and I had 12 births, 11 without and 1 with umbilical hernia, the Z stallion had 34 births, 16 and 18 with no hernia umbilical hernia. Statistical analysis of the hypothesis test of Poisson showed statistically significant difference with 95% confidence to say that the stallion A showed 74.1% in their offspring umbilical hernia and 25.8% of their offspring born without hernia, while the stallion and showed 8.3% of their positive diagnosis umbilical hernia progeny and 91.6% hadn’t. The study reported that in horses, females are more likely to be affected than males for umbilical hernias, showing an influence of gender that could be linked to the X chromosome, which is related to the formation of skeletal muscle.
