Resumen

En la actualidad, Colombia es reconocida a nivel Sur Americano como uno de los piases a la vanguardia en metodología y técnicas de adiestramiento en las diferentes especialidades; este reconocimiento por demás merecido acarrea un gran número de obligaciones, no solo de los entrenadores y las instituciones a las que ellos pertenecen, sino también de los Médicos Veterinarios quienes juegan un papel muy importante en el diagnóstico y tratamiento de problemas y patologías de orden físico y comportamental, que mejoren las condiciones y rendimiento de estos animales. Los perros de trabajo son individuos especiales que desde su selección misma son sometidos a procesos y entrenamientos de alta exigencia física y mental, lo que los diferencia de sus congéneres “mascotas”, por lo tanto es indispensable determinar los problemas propios de este grupo, para generar estrategias especificas que garanticen su excelencia, aumenten su vida útil y mantengan la calidad de vida de estos animales en provecho del ser humano. Para tal fin, se estudio el comportamiento de 249 perros de trabajo de dos instituciones de alto reconocimiento como lo son la Cruz Roja Colombiana y la Policía Nacional, exclusivamente durante los periodos de selección y entrenamiento; dividiendo los problemas de estos periodos en tres grupos; los de primer orden, que hacen referencia a los procesos de aprendizaje en las primeras etapas de desarrollo; los de segundo orden, que tratan de los problemas de interacción entre el canino y su medio de entrenamiento; y los de tercer orden que son aquellos problemas que se generan por procedimientos errados del guía.

Today Colombia is recognized in South America as one of the vanguard countries in regards to methods and techniques of training in the different specialities. This deserved recognition involves a big number of obligations, not only on behalf of the trainers and those institutions to which they belong but from the Veterinarian Practitioners who play a very important role in the diagnostic and treatment of the physical and behavior al problems and pathologies, in order that conditions and efficiency of these animals, may improve. The work dogs are special individuals that from their very selection are submitted to processes and trainings that demand high physical and mental requirement, which make them different from their “pets” congeners, and accordingly it is compulsory to determine the inherent problems of this group to generate specific strategies that may guarantee the quality of life of these animals, their excellence and the increment of their useful performance, profitable to the human being. According to the foregoing we have been studying, we have been studding the behavior of 249 work dogs from two well known institutions; The Colombian Red Cross and The National Police, mostly during the periods of selection and training dividing the problems of these periods in three groups; 1. Those that refer to the learning processes during the beginning levels of development; 2. Problems of interaction between the dog itself and its training environment, and 3.The Problems generated through wrong handling processes of the guide.
