Among four poultry farms belonging to COOPVENCEDOR it was evaluated the decrease (lost of weight) of the fattening chicken during their transportation from the farm to the poultry plant. For this research it was taken into account three (3) journeys per each farm and per each sex, in order to identify the factors which play an important role in the losing of weight. Likewise, it was evaluated the effect of the transportation time due to the condition of roads and its repercussions. The weight of the chickens was assessed previous to the loading to the poultry plant –for each farm involved- and it was assessed again upon arrival. In order to characterize this information considering the farm, sex and weight variables, the research is supported by descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and average comparison tests of Duncan. At random model was developed with factorial arrangements 4 x 2 to determine the already existing differences among farms involved and among sex. It was found that farms behave differently and this obviously depends on the distance, travelling time and road conditions. As well, significant differences were found among males and females animals. As per the interaction between farms and sex, big differences were found too, because the weight is affected by the time of transportation, previous management to the loading and also by other factors such as quality of the transportation vehicles, time of journey, condition of roads and environmental circumstances. NOTE that each lost gram (-1gr) is translated into an economic lost of $2.1. Males are more affected by condition, quality and time of transportation rather than by distance from farms to poultry plants, being the condition of roads a main factor which increases the time of journey and therefore increases the stress of animals and consequently causes the lost of weight in both sex.
