The mar keting of orna mental fish in Co lo mbia so much to internal level since for exportation it has turned into a topic of great importance for the economy at present (Chapman, 2006). Nevertheless, the anima ls continue being e xtracted from the natural way and the techno logies of mana ging in collection are not the suitable ones, generating losses for mortality and / or decrease in the quality of the anima ls. The tigrito (Pimelodus pictus), is one of the native fish most commerciali zed in Colo mbia of which t here are not known effective technologies of ma nagi ng and collection that could ma nage di mi nish mortality and i mprove corporal condition (qua lity of the product). There were evaluated four densities of collection (0.12, 0.24, 0.48 and 1 pe z/L) each one by four replies by a period of 45 days in aquariums of 50 liters by heating and artificial aeration. Is observed that the very high densities over 0.48 individuals for liter or very low below 0.24 individuals for liter in t he collection of the ti grito they are a determinant factor in the quality of the water and therefore in the presence of stress in these animals. Densities over 0.48 ind. /L increase the levels of toxic ammoni um and nitrites (0.018±0.004 and 0.45±0.10 respectively) and increase the mortality of a significant way (42.83 %) with regard to the densities between the 0.48 and 0.24 ind./L. (5.2 and 0 % respectively). On the other side, minor densities to 0.24 ind. /L, increase the levels of nitrites (0.37±0.26), besides di minishing t he food consumption. The high densities of collection influence negatively the survival of this species, originating econo mic and environmenta l losses diminishing the sustainability of the resource.
