Reference ranges for heterophoria and fusional reserves between 6 and 60 years of age

dc.description<em><strong>Objective</strong><em> To describe the reference values for heterophoria measured with the prism cover test (PCT), negative (NFR) and positive (PFR) fusional reserves at 3 m and 0.4 m, and near point of convergence (NPC) in a Colombian population between 6 and 60 years of age. <em><strong>Materials and methods</strong><em> 632 people from Pereira, Colombia, were included in this study. A routine optometric examination was performed, including evaluation of heterophoria with PCT, NFR and PFR with prism bar, NPC with an accommodative target (AT) and a red filtered light (RF). <em><strong>Results</strong><em> Median values for fusional reserves at 3 m and 0.4 m (rupture/recovery) were: NFR: 10/6, 14/10 PFR: 20/16, 30/22 NPC: (AT) 7/10, (RF) 10/14 PCT: far 0, near –2. There was no significant change regarding ametropia and age (<em>p</em> > 0.05), except for PFR, mainly at 0.4 m. <em><strong>Conclusion</strong><em> The results were slightly higher than those reported by other authors, therefore it is recommended to use as a guide the data reported in the present study.en
dc.description<em><strong>Objetivo</strong><em> describir los valores de referencia para la heteroforia medida con el prisma cover test, las reservas fusionales negativas (RFN) y las positivas (RFP) a 3 m y 0,4 m y el punto próximo de convergencia (PPC), en una población colombiana entre los 6 y los 60 años de edad. <em><strong>Materiales y métodos</strong><em> se incluyeron 632 personas de Pereira, Colombia, en este estudio. Se les practicó un examen optométrico rutinario que incluyó la evaluación de la heteroforia con PCT, RFN y RFP con barra de prismas, PPC con una tarjeta acomodativa (OR) y luz más filtro rojo (FR). <em><strong>Resultados</strong><em> la mediana para las reservas fusionales a 3 m y 0,4 m fue (ruptura/recobro): RFN: 10/6, 14/10 RFP: 20/16, 30/22 PPC: (OR) 7/10, (FR) 10/14 PCT: lejos 0, cerca –2. No se presentó un cambio significativo respecto a la ametropía y la edad (<em>p</em> &gt 0,05), excepto para las RFP, principalmente a 0,4 m. <em><strong>Conclusión</strong><em> los resultados fueron ligeramente superiores a lo señalado por otros autores, por lo que se recomienda emplear como guía los datos reportados en el presente trabajo.es
