Predictability and Unpredictability: Their Role in the Epistemological Refl ection about the Library as a Social Science
Resumen
El presente artículo pretende abordar el problema de la predictibilidad e impredictibilidad y su incidencia en la investigación bibliotecológica,como disciplina social. Para tal fin, en primer lugar, se proponen algunas aclaraciones conceptuales relacionadas con los enunciados observaciones, las leyes experimentales y los sistemas teóricos; en segundo lugar, se analiza qué vínculos tienen estos conceptos con la predicción científica; en tercer lugar, se exponen los aportes de Kuhn, Lakatos y Kuipers, relacionados con esta cuestión, para finalmente mostrar que los desarrollos investigativos de la bibliotecología se enmarcan más en la generación de conocimiento con un carácter en principio impredecible

Abstract
This article aims to approach the problem of predictability and unpredictability and their impact on Library Research as a social discipline. For that purpose, some conceptual clarifications are proposed in regards to statements, observations, experimental laws and theoretical systems. Furthermore, an analysis is made of the links between these concepts and scientific prediction. Finally, the contributions by Kuhn, Lakatos and Kuipers regarding this issue are presented, with the purpose of finally showing that Library Research developments are framed in the knowledge generation with an unpredictable nature in principle
