The Agribusiness of “Papa Criolla” in Colombia: Current Status and Challenges of its Development

Resumen

Este artículo efectúa un análisis de la agroindustria de la papa criolla en Colombia, desde el enfoque de la teoría de sistemas, es decir, entendiendo a la agroindustria como una parte o eslabón de un gran sistema denominado “cadena productiva”. La agroindustria, como elemento de este sistema, debe interactuar de manera coordinada y eficiente con todos los demás eslabones que componen el sistema, para que pueda desarrollar su actividad propia. Por tal razón, solo con el enfoque sistémico se puede desarrollar un diagnóstico de la situación actual de esta agroindustria que permita identificar los retos potenciales que esta tiene para su desarrollo futuro.

Abstract

This article analyzes the agro-industry of “papa criolla” (Solanum phureja or baby yellow potato) in Colombia, from the point of view of systems theory, that is, understanding agribusiness as a link or a part of a larger system called “productive chain”. As an element of this system, Agribusiness must interact in a coordinated and efficient way with the other links that make up the system in order to carry out its own activities. Therefore, only the systems approach can develop a diagnosis of the current situation of this agro-idustry in order to identify the potential challenges for its future development.
