Selection of the Thematic Focus of a Multidisciplinary Research Center: the Ciinda Case
Resumen
Al iniciar actividades, el Centro de Investigación, Innovación y Desarrollo Agroalimentario (Ciinda) debió definir la orientación de las actividades de investigación en función del impacto en la comunidad y su sostenibilidad, en un escenario con muchas opciones de trabajo y de decisión. En este contexto, se diseñó un trabajo de investigación con el fin de seleccionar aquellas alternativas que ofrecieran mejores perspectivas de desarrollo. Los investigadores del Centro trabajaron conjuntamente, mediante investigación cualitativa e inductiva de tipo documental, con el fin de seleccionar uno o más clústeres que focalicen su trabajo futuro. Como resultado, se priorizaron tres clústeres de los catorce estudiados para Colombia: frutas‑hortalizas, carnes y lácteos. La investigación futura se hará en uno o varios eslabones de la cadena agroindustrial de alimentos —producción primaria, transformación e industrialización, comercialización hasta el empresarismo—, con ejes transversales de impacto social para desarrollo rural, innovación, transferencia de tecnología y sostenibilidad ambiental. Este enfoque es coherente con el propósito misional de la Universidad de La Salle y con el saber hacer de los diferentes investigadores del Centro. La actividad se desarrollará en red con la comunidad, las empresas, el estado, los gremios, las universidades, los centros de desarrollo tecnológico, productivo, de investigación, y demás participantes.

Abstract
Upon starting activities, the Center for Research, Innovation and Agroalimentary Development (Ciinda) had to define the course of the research in terms of the impact on the community and its sustainability in a scenario with many job and decision options. In this context, a research project was designed to select those alternatives that offered better prospects for development. Researchers from the Center worked together in a qualitative and inductive documentary research with the purpose of selecting one or more clusters focusing on their future work. As a result, three clusters of the 14 studied for Colombia were prioritized: fruits, vegetables, meats and dairy. Future research will be done in one or more links of the agroindustrial food chain —primary production, transformation and industrialization, commercialization to entrepreneurship—, with transverse axis of social impact on rural development, innovation, technology transfer and environmental sustainability. This approach is consistent with the mission purpose of La Salle University and with the expertise of different researchers from the Center. The activity will be networked with the community, companies, the State, unions, universities, technological, production and research development centers, and other participants.
