Latin America: Perspectives on the Point of Meeting of Civilizations
Resumen
En los últimos años se han vivido procesos de migración desde y hacia América, y adicionalmente la presente crisis ha puesto la mirada más que todo en Latinoamérica, donde se ha sostenido económicamente, mientras que grandes potencias han caído frente a ella. Pero no solo por estas razones los ojos se vuelcan a América Latina. Durante las migraciones de inicios del siglo xx esta fue la salida de muchos europeos, asiáticos y el nuevo hogar de los traídos a la fuerza de África en el siglo precedente. Todas estas circunstancias han generado las ciudades y los variados contextos actuales, a los que los arquitectos y urbanistas deben responder para dar, o continuar dando, un sentido de identidad que se ha ido construyendo gracias a esa variedad de culturas que se ha encontrado en el continente. Para ilustrarlo se muestran diferentes perspectivas dadas por invitados a participar al ix Seminario Internacional de Arquitectura, titulado América: cruce de civilizaciones, organizado por la Universidad Piloto de Colombia en 2012.

Abstract
The past few years have witnessed a number of migration processes to and from America; in addition, the present crisis has drawn attention mostly to Latin America, which has remained economically stable while other powerful countries have fallen before it. However, this is not the only reason attention is being drawn towards Latin America. During the migration flows in the early Twentieth Century, Latin America was the destination of many Europeans and Asians, and the new home of those brought by force from Africa in the previous century. These circumstances have generated cities and the different contemporary contexts, to which architects and urban planners must respond in order to give or continue to give a sense of identity that has been built due to the variety of cultures found across the continent. To illustrate this, different perspectives by guests to the 9th International Seminar on Architecture entitled América: Cruce de Civilizaciones, arranged by the Universidad Piloto de Colombia in 2012 are shown.
