Risk Perceptions Associated with the Cumbal Volcanic Complex in Students from the Cumbal − Nariño Municipality, Colombia
Resumen
El artículo de investigación explora las percepciones del riesgo asociadas al Complejo Volcánico Cumbal de estudiantes en el municipio de Cumbal. Analizando los saberes y los conocimientos ancestrales de Los Pastos, el reconocimiento del territorio como lugar sagrado, la comprensión de los fenómenos volcánicos y los acercamientos a la gestión del riesgo por parte de los estudiantes. Corresponde a una investigación cualitativa con un enfoque histórico hermenéutico; empleando entrevistas y mapa de territorio y el análisis de la información bajo el procedimiento de triangulación. Se destaca, el vínculo con la naturaleza, representándola como la fuente ancestral; el origen del pueblo por medio de narrativas orales; el territorio como un lugar sagrado, organismo vivo del cual también hacen parte; la comprensión del riesgo que implicaría una erupción y los efectos en su comunidad, territorio y ambiente.

Abstract
This research explores the risk perceptions associated with the Cumbal Volcanic Complex held by students from Los Andes de Cuaical Educational Institution in the municipality of Cumbal. The ancestral knowledge of the Pastos culture, the recognition of its territory as a sacred place, the understanding of the volcanic phenomena as a result of an eruption, and the approaches to risk management by the students were analyzed. The methodology used to develop the objectives corresponds to qualitative research with a historical hermeneutical approach; To collect the information, interviews and a territory identification map were used, and the analysis information was conducted under a triangulation procedure. As findings, the close link they have with nature stands out, representing it as the primary ancestral source; the origin of its people through oral narratives; the territory’s recognition as a sacred place (a living organism of which they are also part); the risk understanding that an eruptive event would imply and the effects that could occur in their community, territory, and environment.
