Resumen
En la siguiente investigación se revisa la relación entre la deuda externa, la inversión extranjera directa y el crecimiento económico para Colombia en el periodo 1970 - 2015. Por consiguiente, se hace una revisión de autores sobre las diferentes teorías de la relación entre las variables y definiciones importantes, las teorías evaluadas fueron la hipótesis del sobrendeudamiento y la curva de Laffer. Seguido, usando el software E-views realizó dos modelos econométricos multivariados (VEC), a partir de datos anuales, el modelo 1 utiliza las variables en función del crecimiento del PIB, y el modelo 2 en función de logaritmo de cada variable en millones de dólares. Los resultados dados por los modelos indican que para el caso colombiano, la teoría que más se asemeja al comportamiento presentado por estas variables es la curva de Laffer,

In the following research is reviewed the relation between external debt, foreign direct investment and economic growth for Colombia at the period 1970-2015. Consequently, different theories about the relationship between these variables and important definitions are reviewed through diverse authors; the evaluated theories were Debt Overhang and The Laffer curve. Below, using the E-views software were made two econometric multivariate models (VEC) based on annual data, the first one uses the variables in terms of the economic growth and the second one uses the logarithm of each variable in millions of dollars. The results given by the models indicate that for the Colombian case, the most similar theory according to the variables behavior is the Laffer curve, perhaps at the studied period is not possible know the moment when the relationship between the variables becomes negative
