The project entitled "Technical optimization alternatives - economic on the biological treatment train, Imhoff tank and wetland sub-surface flow and preliminary treatment. PTAR Sotaquirá - Boyacá." It was developed to respond to the need to evaluate and optimize the Sotaquirá - Boyacá wastewater treatment plant that serves an estimated population of 1500 people in the municipal capital and surrounding areas, which currently has unconventional unitary operations such as the use of sub-surface wetlands and an Imhoff tank. The objective of the project was to propose optimization alternatives on the biological treatment train, Imhoff tank and sub-surface flow wetland of the WWTP of the municipality of Sotaquirá - Boyacá from its design, operation and optimization. To achieve this, four samples were taken of the study units evaluating in situ parameters such as pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen and ex situ parameters such as BOD, COD, iron, alkalinity, among others; in addition to this, operational parameters were evaluated in the Imhoff tank such as IVL and F/M ratio; subsequently, a statistical analysis was performed on the evaluated parameters in order to show significant differences in the removal of these pollutants and based on this, the efficiency percentages of each of the study units were calculated. Finally, based on these results, optimization alternatives were proposed for the study units. Within the results found, the statistical analyses showed that there were no significant differences in water quality between the entrance and exit of each of the study units with respect to the in situ and ex situ parameters evaluated; additionally, the IVL operations and F/M ratio parameters that were calculated for the Imhoff tank demonstrate that this unit is not operating efficiently and based on this, 3 optimization alternatives were proposed that were evaluated technically and economically to show the viability of each of them. It was concluded that the efficiencies in the removal of contaminants from each of these unitary operations are deficient being necessary the optimization of each one of them, in addition, it was concluded that the three optimization alternatives are technically and economically viable however, the second alternative for the wetland of sub-surface flow involving PGPR bacteria is more profitable in the short and medium term than the first alternative but at the level of efficiency alternative 1 would be more viable
