The present study was carried out under laboratory conditions and evaluated the performance of the biofloc technology applied in the raising of bocachico fingerlings (Prochilodus magdalenae) as well as its influence on their development. A total of 50 individuals were sown, distributed in equal quantities in two experimental units: experimental aquarium (T1) where biofloc technology was implemented and which was supplied with molasses as a carbon source, and the white aquarium (T0) where they were kept. conditions like those presented in conventional production. During the investigation, which lasted 18 days, water quality parameters were evaluated such as: DO, pH, BOD5, COD, total ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and phosphates, in addition to the weights and lengths of the fish, the variables were contrasted using the T-Student and U Mann Whitney tests (p <0.05). It was determined that the highest BOD5 and COD concentrations were reported for the biofloc aquarium, with 38, 35 mg/L and 102 mg/L respectively showing these two parameters statistically significant differences compared to the white aquarium (T0); other parameters such as total ammonium, nitrites and nitrates showed lower concentrations for this system compared to the white aquarium (T0). Regarding the individuals, it is presented that the survival in both cases was 100% and that in their development there were no statistically significant differences between both aquariums. The results of this research allow to conclude that the biofloc in the experimental aquarium system (T1) did not reach the necessary maturity to show a decrease in the concentrations of both BOD5 and COD, these being indicators of contamination by organic matter in the water, and which also did not contribute to the increase in fish development.
