The main objective of this study is to establish the relationship between heat island and the concentration of particulate matter in the formation of hail storms, in the period between 1998 and 2008. Initially the representation at precipitation time, the concentration of particulate matter and temperature is performed; descriptive statistics are used in order to know the general characteristics of the variables, using the time information from 22 stations located in Bogota city, during the days that this extreme event ocurred; moreover the spatial representation of the variables is performed, in order to establish their spatial behavior and the relationship between them. Finally the multivariate linear logistic model is used to determine the correlation between variables, concluding that precipitation, temperature and particulate matter have a positive correlation relative to solid precipitation (hail). Additionally a model that indicates the probability of hail based on the parameters object of this study is obtained, this model has a good predictive rate of 68% in relation to the occurrence of solid precipitation, and it is demonstrated that the temperature affects the development of this precipitation, showing causality between the phenomenon of heat island formation and hailstorms
