Colombia is a country with a forest vocation, however, the decision making process is greatly affecting the forest ecosystem. Many of these bad decisions are associated with ignorance of the standing volumes of trees of commercial importance and their productive behavior. For this reason, the main objective of this study is to analyze the cost-benefit ratio of the volumetric projection of the species Hymenaea oblongifolia Huber (1909) from the adjusted equation to the general equation in a natural forest of Istmina-Chocó. To achieve this objective, an inventory was initially carried out on two hectares of the individuals belonging to the species. To determine the diametric behavior of the trees in the area; next, measurements were taken of the trees along the shaft each one meter from 0.50 m, located at the base of the tree; With the data taken previously, we proceeded to determine the shape of the shaft using the shape ratio and the morphic coefficient with the help of the statistical package PAST 3.20 (2018), nine equations were run to determine which of these had better fit for the shape Geometry of the species, this adjustment was made by means of selection parameters (adjusted determination coefficient, the standard error of the estimate, the coefficient of variation, the Snedecor F value and the weighting of these values), with the package Statistical GRETL 1.7.1 (2018), the validation of the selected equation was made with the independence of the residues: Durbin-Watson test and the normal distribution of waste: Shapiro-Wilk test; an in-depth interview was conducted to analyze the social and productive behavior of the use of this species in the area. The main results suggest that the trees of the species in the area behave in the form of an inverted jota: the lower the diameter category, the greater the number of individuals; and to a greater diameter category, a smaller number of individuals; the shape of the stem of the species is a paraboloid; the equation of best fit was the of Schumacher y Hall (ln(V) = β1 ln(D) + β2 ln(H)), the proposed assumptions were met; the use in the area is profitable since its cost-benefit ratio is higher than one; the species spends 29% of the money invested in the operations, nevertheless it contributes values over 30% in the profits of the activity; The analysis of profitability of the species using the general equation compared to the one found showed that in both cases the profitability is positive, although the values of the traditional equation are supremely high with respect to the values estimated with the equation found. The conclusions show that the species has a paraboloid and not a cylinder shape, that the best behavior equation is Schumacher and Hall, that the species represents good profitability in the area and its compotation does not differ from that made in other areas with the same conditions biogeographical, that the Schumacher and Hall equation, presents a good productive and economic behavior in the area, reflecting gains of 2.8 pesos for each peso invested
