Resumen
Fueron estudiados 138 gatos domésticos de diferentes zonas de Bogotá D.C. El 61% eran hembras y el 39% eran machos, los rangos de edad variaban de 0 – 2.9 años (43%), 3 – 5.9 años (47%) y 6-10 años (10%); el 75% de los gatos eran de raza mientras que un 25% eran gatos criollos, los hábitat eran variados algunos se encontraban en cautiverio externo (34%), cautiverio interno (38%), cautiverio interno con posibilidad de salir a la calle (9%), cautiverio estricto (4%) y callejeros (15%). Se realizó un estudio de Prevalencia para la Haemobartonella felis. El diagnóstico fue realizado por medio de frotis de sangre periférica con tinción de Diff Quick. Se determinó que el 24.6% de lo gatos en el estudio eran positivos a H. felis. Los factores de riesgos más importantes determinados en el estudio por medio del programa EPI INFO fueron: machos, entre 0-3 años y que tengan contacto con animales callejeros o que se les permita la salida a la calle frecuentemente.

One hundred thirty eight domestic cats from different areas of Bogotá D.C were studied. 61% of the cats were female and 39% were male, and the age ranges varied between 0-2.9 years (43 %), 3-5.9 years (47 %) and 6-10 years (10 %); 75% of the cats were of race whereas 25% were stray cats. The cats’ habitats varied between outdoor captivity (34%), indoor captivity (38%), indoor captivity with possibility of going out (9%), strict captivity (4%) and stray cats (15%). A prevalence study was performed for “Haemobartonella felis”. The diagnosis was done by means of smearing the outlying blood with Diff Quick stain. It was determined that 24.6% of the cats in the study were positive to H. felis. The most important risk factors determined in the study by means of the program EPI INFO were: male cats among 0-3 years and that have contact with street animals or that are frequently allowed to go out.
