Abstract
We present the design and implementation of a prototype orthosis to treat and prevent carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), disease suffered especially by women, when they use their hands in repetitive actions. The device is designed based on the pathology of the disease and the anatomy of the body segments of the right hand, getting a four-piece mechanism in stainless steel AISI 304, to which he exercises sequences implemented to prevent and treat the disease. For movement of the prototype were installed four servomotors coupled to each of the movable segments of the device which are controlled by a microcontroller PIC16F628A, programming four sequences of motion, operated by the respective pushbuttons. The device is aimed to complement the treatments supervised by physiotherapists. © 2013 IEEE.
