Abstract
Some plants with insecticidal properties can be explored as an alternative for the control of mosquito-borne diseases and other pests. The objective was to evaluate the toxicity of aqueous extract of Ruta graveolens on Culex quinquefasciatus and Anopheles albimanus larvae. The follow concentrations: 50 mg/L, 100 mg/L; 300 mg/L; and 500 mg/L of R. graveolens aqueous extract were analyzed. 60 larvae and a control (20 larvae) by concentration were utilized. The exposition time of the larvae was of 24 hours in each concentration, to a temperature of 28±2 °C. The LC and LC were estimated with the test Probit. The concentration 300 mg/L showed significant effect in the percentage of mortality of the larvae; which was for A. albimanus of 98 % and for C. quinquefasciatus was between 86 % and 95 %. The CL for A. albimanus Barranquilla colony larvae was of 143.79 mg/L; while for Cartagena colony larvae was of 109.73 mg/L. The CL for C. quinquefasciatus Sibate colony larvae was of 148.79 mg/L; while for Villavicencio colony larvae was of 209.91 mg/L. The R. graveolens aqueous extract showed to have toxic effect for the two mosquito species, which suggests that this plant could be a promising alternative for the control of mosquitoes. 50 95 50 50
