Abstract
The main purpose was to study the effectiveness of homogeneous and heterogeneous photocatalysis in cyanide removal at the laboratory level. To develop the project, a photochemical reactor was built with a germicidal ultraviolet lamp of 8W. The concentrations of cyanide in these solutions were: 1 mg CN-/L, 10 mg CN-/L, 100 mg CN-/L, and 500 mg CN-/L. The cyanide concentration was tracked once applied the process, but only after a defined reaction time 100% removal was obtained with homogeneous photocatalysis and 21% with heterogeneous photocatalysis. Since the heterogeneous photocatalysis did not show satisfactory effectiveness, only the homogeneous variant was applied to treat nine samples of three cyanide effluents obtained from the galvanic industrial sector, this time obtaining an average of 97% destruction effectiveness.
