It compared the speed of growth, the condition factor, the fecundity of the females, the survival and the segregation of the color of hybrid between red Tilapia and silver Tilapia from the fingerlings phase until obtaining the second generation. Then it used the family selection as method of genetic improvement; the study was carried out with a number of 15 families divided in three cohorts. The animals were taken until reaching the sexual maturity (70 gr. aprox.) and it used the system of floating cages for the individual handling of each family. Then, the two better families were chosen by weight of each cohort, for their later crosses among-them, of the individuals selected by red color. The results indicated that there were significant differences for the speed of growth that was 5.35gr hybrid (Oreochromis spp x Oreochromis niloticus), while that of the animal control (Oreochromis spp x Oreochromis spp) it went from 3.25gr to 60 days of age and of 73.85gr and 60.26gr on the average respectively, the 150 days of age. As for the condition factor it was found that the hybrid ones had 2.44gr/cm3 while the control obtained 2.24gr/cm3 on the average to the 150 days of age. For the frequency of the color of the first genaracion obtained 29.93 red%, 46.66 spotted% and 23.41 silver%; while for the second generation obtained 40.34 red%, 37.5 spotted% and 22.16 silver%. This variation in to the frequency it was due to the selection for red color carried out to the first generation to obtain their descendant. The survival of the animals was 98.73% for the hybrid ones (Oreochromis spp x Oreochromis niloticus) and 96.82% for the control (Oreochromis spp x Oreochromis spp) to the 60 days of age; and 98.46% for the hybrid ones and 95.68% for the control to the 150 days of age.
