Cadastre of the Breeding of Razor-Sharp Fighting Roosters in Abancay, Perú
Resumen
El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo caracterizar los sistemas empleados en la crianza en gallos de combate a navaja, en la ciudad de Abancay, Perú, durante el 2013. El estudio fue cualitativo, observacional, descriptivo y transversal. Se realizaron entrevistas a una muestra aleatoria simple de cien criadores. Se determinó que, la mayoría cría entre una y diez aves. Por consiguiente, se estimó la existencia de 657 gallos de combate de raza criollo peruano en la ciudad. Asimismo, pocos criadores recibieron asesoramiento de un médico veterinario, lo que se refleja en el deficiente manejo sanitario, nutricional y genético proporcionado a estas aves. Por otro lado, se evidenció que el público que asiste a los eventos gallísticos apuesta más de USD 22 por evento.

Abstract
The current study aimed to characterize the systems used in raising razor-fighting roosters in the city of Abancay, Perú, during 2013. The study was qualitative, observational, descriptive and cross-sectional. Interviews were conducted with a simple random sample of 100 breeders. It was determined that the majority breed between 1-10 birds; therefore, the existence of 657 fighting roosters of the Peruvian creole breed in the city, was estimated. In addition, few breeders received advice from a veterinary doctor, which is reflected in the poor health, and nutritional and genetic management provided to these birds. On the other hand, the public that attends the fights bets more than USD 22 per event.
