School Dropout in Higher Secondary Education: Institutional Affiliation and Family Dynamics in Students from Sonora, Mexico
Resumen
En esta investigación se determinó la relación entre la afiliación institucional de estudiantes de bachillerato con el abandono escolar y el entorno familiar. El estudio fue longitudinal, se aplicó una encuesta a 1786 estudiantes de primer ingreso. El porcentaje de abandono escolar fue del 17,5 %. Un análisis que comparó las medias obtenidas entre quienes abandonaron y permanecieron, en las dimensiones de estudio, mostró autoapreciaciones más bajas en los aspectos evaluados. Los estudiantes que permanecen otorgan mayor importancia a la educación media superior, tienen mayor visión de futuro, mejor desempeño académico, y habilidades para el estudio y autoaprendizaje. La percepción negativa de su ambiente familiar y la presencia de violencia física y verbal tuvieron un efecto negativo en las dimensiones de estudio analizadas.

Abstract
This investigation examines the relationship between the institutional affiliation of high school students with school dropouts and the family environment. The study was longitudinal, a survey was applied to 1786 firstyear students. The school dropout rate was 17.5%. An analysis that compared the means obtained between those who dropped out and those who remained, in relation to the study dimensions, showed lower self-assessments in the aspects evaluated. The students who remain at school conferred greater importance to higher secondary education, have a greater vision of the future, better academic performance, and study and self-learning skills. The negative perception of their family environment and the presence of physical and verbal violence had a negative effect on the analyzed study dimensions.
